Reference Charts
As suggested by Donald Graves (1994), students need to be a part of the making of reference charts. The charts need to be meaningful for them and be used as a tool to aid them in their writing. We compile charts to help us make many connections with word formations and to increase our spelling/writing vocabulary. Many of our reference charts are directly connected to our poetry. Our charts are compiled in large groups and added to when students discover other words that are relative to that chart. We use charts frequently to reinforce learning and be used in the classroom, the most helpful charts are selected and then posted on the website.
