ISU Students
- Arrive on time and stay for your entire session.
- Upon entrance into a classroom, look around for
the "sign-in" sheet and any specific guidelines a
teacher may have posted. Reading these will help you feel more comfortable and
confident.
- Never bring food and beverages into the classroom
- Stay focused and involved in the observation,
refrain from talking and visiting with other observers
- Be flexible-your observation time may dictate
that you follow the class to a special , such as art, drama,
music.
- Embrace any opportunity to participate in the
class. Many teachers will look for ways to incorporate your help.
ISU Faculty
- Please understand that it takes some time to
schedule observations. Consider making your request as soon as you
can, even if the observations won't need to begin for several
weeks. You can both request observations and have your
students complete the scheduling sheet online. Or you can use the
hard copies provided for you by Lynn Steffen.
- Teach your students how to locate their
observation schedules and other important information on the
Metcalf Teacher Ed Website.
- Insist that your students become familiar with
the Guidelines for Observations,
prior to their first visit.
- Don't hesitate to contact Karen Irvin, Metcalf
Teacher Education Coordinator if you have any questions.

Metcalf Faculty
-
Create a welcoming environment
for the many ISU students who will work, learn and grow at our
school. As the Lab School for ISU, we have the opportunity and
responsibility to provide unique and valuable field
experiences.
-
If you have specific guidelines
for observations in your room, post them in a highly visible
place for the observers.
-
Consider allowing observers to
participate and interact with students. If the observers
aren't involved in completing a specific assignment for their
professor, they may embrace the invitation from you to get
involved.
-
Make sure you have plenty of
"observer sign-in sheets "posted inside your
classroom. Return them to Karen Irvin when completed.
-
Don't hesitate to contact Karen
Irvin if you need assistance or have any questions.
